Mystical mountains in orange lit clouds

Your journey starts here

Join the upcoming herociety journey

Only s/heroes take on challenges and live to tell the tale. They are storytellers as much as they are fighters. Herociety means living like a hero and telling about it — a LIVE online course to practice being the storyteller and the actual s/hero of your own journey.

In an eight-week live online course that combines storytelling training and hero coaching, you will learn to see the stories of your life as a hero’s journey, a journey of adventure, obstacles, failure, skill honing and successes.

Hero stories motivate yourself and others to act. It doesn’t matter if you want to encourage yourself, your team, or a crowd. It doesn’t matter if you talk about your failures and successes to inspire action in yourself or others, to build up confidence, to teach, or to forward information. It doesn’t matter in which field you are working or what lifestyle you live. You are the hero of your own life.

The herociety journey

Herociety is a LIVE online course divided into four levels over a eight-week period. Each week consists of two consecutive sessions totaling 2.5 hours. One session is focused on storytelling techniques and practice. The other session is a group coaching focused on finding or knowing yourself. Furthermore, you’ll have the accountability of the group and a platform to practice your stories.

The sessions take place live via ZOOM, so that you have the immediacy of a face-to-face meeting in the comfort of your own home. We will use the feature of break-out rooms to create small groups, where you’ll exercise your newly learned skills. You’ll also be invited to join our community on Telegram.

  • Level 1: Familiar world. In the first two weeks, you establish where you are on your hero’s journey. You will tell your first stories, find out what they mean to you, and take the first step in finding your unique voice.

  • Level 2: Departure. Now that you have gotten to know yourself and each other, it is time to build your story. Story structures such as the hero’s journey help you to construct a compelling narrative. However, it is not the only way to tell your story. We’ll look at several models that most storytellers use, and you decide how to tell your tale.

  • Level 3: Transformation. Level three is where the real transformation happens. To succeed as a storyteller, you will need logical arguments, credibility, and lots of emotions. Most of all, you need to find your own authentic voice and define the values that are the foundation of your s/hero’s journey. Like every craft, storytelling requires some practice. You need to get used to your new-found voice, overcome your inner critic, and give yourself permission to be ridiculous, if only during rehearsals.

  • Level 4: Return. You left your familiar world behind, crossed the threshold to the realm of adventure, and discovered an essential part of yourself. It is time to return and tell the tale. You’ll learn that a great storyteller is also a great listener. At last, every good story needs to have a happy ending. For you, that might mean tackling your next monster, looking for a damsel in distress, or help other s/heroes to rise and shine.

Lavinia Knop-Walling is a blind freelance storyteller, author, blogger, and the word smith of the herociety venture. Lavinia found her voice for the first time when she played a very small, very green Marsian in a musical at age eleven. It was her teacher who, despite her stage fright, encouraged Lavinia to sing with the comforting words, “Do it! Do it, now!” Twenty years later and she still hasn’t shut her mouth. Whether it’s workshops, podcasts, or webinars, Lavinia tells stories. Everyone has an inspiring personal story to tell but not always the voice to do it. Lavinia’s goal is to show you how to use the greatest weapon a storyteller has — the s/hero’s voice.

Bjarke Walling is a transformational online coach. If herociety is a call to adventure, you can see Bjarke as your ‘fairy godmother’, the helpful spirit bestowing gifts on those s/heroes who answered the call. In the past, he worked as a consultant and software developer for many businesses. Some of those, he started himself. His role is to help you on your way to find your s/hero’s voice by establishing where you are on your journey, defining the obstacles in your way, and helping you to create a clear vision of your future.

Lavinia and Bjarke are currently involved in the greatest hero’s journey of them all. They are married. Most obstacles, they take in stride. The only thing they don’t enjoy doing together is the dishes. They draw straws.
